Career Speaker

On Thursday, March 9, tenth and eleventh grade ETS students from Hazleton Area High School and Hazleton Area Career Center had the opportunity to learn about careers in surveying from Dr. Dimitrios Bolkas, Instructor of Surveying and Engineering at Penn State Wilkes-Barre. Students learned about the science behind surveying, discovered degree options in surveying technology and surveying engineering, and even got to see surveying equipment in action. Two students enrolled in the surveying program at Penn State Wilkes-Barre were also present to answer questions from a college student’s perspective. Thanks to Dr. Bolkas for all of the information on this booming STEM field!

National TRiO Day

This year on Saturday, February 25, National TRIO Day will be recognized in communities throughout the United States. National TRIO Day was initiated in 1986, and designed to be celebrated annually on the last Saturday in February, in order to focus the nation’s “attention on the needs of disadvantaged young people and adults aspiring to improve their lives.”  Federal Trio Programs assist low-income Americans  enter college, graduate and move on to participate more fully in America’s economic and social life.
